This is TEXT and can be turned off in the wbAdvert Module that you already installed.
At top / Extensions / Module Manager / FIlter -Select Type- / Open the mod_wbadvert
> Turn off the "Show Alerts" option
> Wrap Module = Yes/No ... this is child to the module wrapper that Joomla may create
> Wrap Advert = Yes/No ... each DIV will have a unique ID if you want to target each advertisement


Try that - test with advertisements that don't have any fiters
until you are comfortable with the process.

Is there any way that instead of either displaying the error, or nothing at all, I can have the system just grab a random banner to throw onto any page if one isn't specified?

When new pages are added, or menu links get deleted/moved, banners do not show up on pages unless you go back in and specify that they should show on those pages.

I would love it so as a fail-safe the system could just throw some random banners out if no specifics were listed for a given page.
